Yes, that is an amazing price and an excellent camera. I paid $400 for one with 1 less megapixel, and my friend bought that camera in the 5 mp form for $300 more. If I didn't already have one, I would buy it.

which lens for wildlife photography? 7-300 or 70-200L?

I was going to buy either the canon 70-300IS or the 70-200L f/4 telephoto zoom lens. Mainly for wildlife, but also just general zoom. Im at the point where I want to start getting lenses that will last longer and give me better results.

I would get the 70-300 and a decent tripods. That extra 100 will make a big difference if you are doing wildlife pics. It is 50% increase over the 70-200. IS though s a really nice feature.

The quality of the lens makes a big difference on the final picture. If the 70-300 is not the L lens the 70-200L will definitely take a better picture.

Preamble to the Film Battle

I set everything like it would have been on my Mamiya, and since almost all color film nowadays is daylight-balanced, I didn't feel like adjusting it. And then there's the differences in their own stocks. I love film, don't get me wrong, but man, I do love the stuff you can do with digital. Negative vs 'chrome,' a. k. a. slide, or positive films. you have to really know what you're doing when you shoot slide film. I know the 'chrome' stocks have amazing saturation, almost on the unnatural side, while having a slim exposure latitude. These are comparable shots to what you will see when I get the film back. Negative film, on the other hand, is quite forgiving, allowing for a lot of play when making prints (and hopefully when scanning).

Sony 'boosts low-light picture quality' with white pixels

Sony is promising improved low-light photography from its forthcoming range of smartphone camera sensors, thanks to the addition of white-light pixels. Smartphones typically use smaller lenses and image sensors than dedicated cameras, delivering blurred or dark pictures in low light. "This is good news for device makers, they can improve their cameras and give consumers a more functional camera that will work in better lighting situations," said Brian Blau, research director at the technology consultants Gartner. After focusing on megapixels for years, camera sensor-makers are increasingly promoting low-light functionality as a selling point. The move may help Sony sell more sensors to other manufacturers. The technology adds the white-light detectors to the red, green and blue (RGB)-sensing pixels already included in its existing devices.

Being able to focus to 20 inches or so allows me to watch insects & spiders with as much detail as if my eye were just a couple inches from the object (if the naked eye could focus that close). To me, the quality is not noticeably different from that of the $350 birding binoculars (8x32, etc. I tried some truly bad binoculars ($100 cheapies, zoom binocs, etc. I expect that in time, you will see rave reviews on butterfly websites. These binocs are perfect for anybody who is interested in all creatures, not just birds. We used them at the Everglades and were equally pleased with the views of birds, alligators, crabs, insects, etc. Amazingly, the quality of the image is very good (for both near & far objects). They have gotten me interested in butterflying, and for this purpose they are superb....

After taking a year off, Prestige Communications's Home & Lifestyle Show returned to Western Hall Saturday and Sunday, and even with more than 40 businesses participating, Program Director Kim Williams said there's still room to grow. "Our vendors put together great displays, Ashley Katz and everyone out at WIU were easy to work with and gave us an amazing date, and we had a lot of local families come out and enjoy the show. "They wanted it to be in January, but with sports and everything, we just couldn't get Western Hall, and it wasn't working out. "But it's still going really well, and I think next year we'll be able to build it up bigger and better. Williams said she received notification in October that the hall would be available this weekend, and she jumped at the opportunity, despite the short notice. "We took a year off from doing it, because our clients said the Home Show was just too late in the season for them," said Williams.
